A Brief History of the Company

1993 John Freeman (Age 17) sets up his first company JFTrad, in St. Neots, Cambs, painting wargames miniatures, mostly for the American Market.

1994-5 John begins selling miniatures through a local toy store, Toyman which later moves into Barretts Dpmt Store and also sells John's first publication - "Watch this Space", a magazine for local Sci-Fi writers.

1995 September. John goes to University in Cheltenham and winds down the painting side of the business in favour of Bar Work and getting a degree.

1996 August. JFTrad has a brief flurry in the entertainments industry organising and running "Rock Nite" at the Priory Centre in St. Neots. "Trux" headline the gig.

1996 August JFTrad's latest idea is to buy a house in Cheltenham, live in one room and let the others out to students. Neat!

1998 August Dec JFTrad is re-borne as "The Student Service", buying student necesities wholesale and delivering them to shared student households around Cheltenham in a 1966 Morris Minor! Student service folds when John sells his house in Cheltenham and moves to Huntingdon.

2000-2001 John meets and marries Claire Coles, and after a rest from the world of small business, and a short spell of working for a landlord in the Forest of Dean (who still owes me several thousand pounds - CCJ issued) decide to run their own pub. J(ohn) & C(laire) Trading is born.

2002 July John & Claire, as J C Trading, open the Golden Lion in Cinderford, Glos.

2002 December. J C Trading starts a secondary business "Golden Lion Outside Bars", providing outside bars within the Forest of Dean.

2004 After 2 years in the Forest, Claire & John decide its time to move to Cheltenham.

2004 July. J C Trading opens the Cotswold in Cheltenham. (some months later we close the Lion in Cinderford).

2006 April. Under the Name "Pubs 'n' Dragons", we begin trading Gothiana at Medieval Fayres, having found an interest in Living History & Battle Re-enactment.

2006 May Brother Martin, of The Drunken Monk, approaches us, as licensees, to see if we could run a beer tent at Nuneaton Steam Rally. Our first event in association with the Drunken Monk.

2006 September Beef Jerky Martin, of Martin's Jerked Meat, approaches us to see if we would like to sell his homemade Beef Jerky & Assorted Products at Medieval Fayres, Food & Wine shows & etc. We take him up on this offer.

2007 Cotswold Inn Sold on and J C Trading moves to Cambridgeshire. Spent the next 8 months runniing 3 businesses; Gothiana (The Bearded Dragon)- Internet Sales, shows, Mead & Fruit Country Wines (The Bearded Dwarf) - Outside Bars & Mead Off License Tents, Martins Jerked Meat as a franchise of Martins Jerked Meat

2007 November. Took over a Drinks Wholesaling business in East Anglia. Winding down "The Bearded Dragon", Gothiana.

2008 July. J C Trading's first venture into Medieval Events organinsing is a roaring succes at Chatteris Medieval Festival,

2008 October. J C Trading Merges with Angela's Pantry

2009 January J C Trading (Wholesale), the wholesale wing of the company, is sold to Vitis Wines.
